Council meeting of July 6, 2004 <br />Page 6 <br />Administrator Mike Ericson met with WBL City Manager Mark Sather and Fire Chief TimVadnais to <br />discuss the current level of ambulance service. Fire Chief Jim Compton discussed the BLS application <br />process with Council, stating that a letter of Council support will need to be sent seeking approval from <br />other agencies, as well as the State of Minnesota. <br />Miron made motion, Haas seconded, directing staff to draft a letter of support for BLS service seeking <br />approval from adjoining agencies and the State of Minnesota. <br />Council member Granger again stated that he had questions and that the City is being prompted into <br />something because of the purchase of an ambulance. Council member Petryk suggested the Council <br />conduct a workshop to discuss this issue in depth. <br />Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to table this issue to allow staff to schedule a workshop meeting. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />Haas made motion, Puleo seconded, authorizing the purchase of the ambulance from the City of <br />Mahtomedi for $7,500 and to repair the air conditioning, and authorized the public sale of truck #4134. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />ONEKA ELEMENTARY FITNESS/GYMNASIUM PROPOSAL <br />Because of a significant community center and two swimming pools being built in the Water's Edge <br />North and Victor Gardens residential subdivisions, City Administrator Mike Ericson requested that <br />Council revisit the fitness/gymnasium facility proposed for the Oneka Elementary school. School <br />architect Steve McNeill from LHB Architects reviewed the design of the school and the public facility. <br />Council discussed at length the size of the public facility, design, an express library, and funding. <br />Developers Len Pratt and Todd Baumgartner from Pulte Homes addressed Council on this issue. <br />Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to direct project architect Steve McNeill from LHB Architects to <br />provide a new gymnasium floor design with court layouts, including a track layout with cost estimates <br />and to look at other funding sources. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />JUNE 28.2004 JOINT COUNCIL/PC MTG (DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT PLAN) <br />At a specially called workshop on Monday, June 28, 2004, the Hugo City Council and Planning <br />Commission listened to a presentation from staff regarding the CSAH 8/14 project and the downtown <br />redevelopment plan. In general, both Council and Commission members were pleased with the draft <br />plan presented. Staff placed this issue on the agenda for informational purposes and to publicly <br />acknowledge that the meeting was held and a final plan will be presented to Council at a regularly <br />scheduled Council meeting. Staff will be conducting a neighborhood meeting with residents in the <br />Everton/Elmcrest Study Area and Wagner's Greenhouse to review with them the draft City streets <br />transportation plan. No formal Council action was taken. <br />
