City Council meeting of May 6, 2002
Page 8
would be limited to "designate" an area because of how the park buildings/shelters are arranged, but
agreed to work with the Sheriffs Department to avoid any problems. Katie Riopel, in charge of the
parade, stated that they have avoided including elected officials from parade festivities to prevent the
cleanup of campaign material. It was not clear if the Council would be participating in the parade
because of possible conflicts in their schedules.
PARKS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATIONS
At its April 10, 2002 meeting, the Parks Commission discussed a number of issues for which they are
seeking Council approval. The Parks Commission desires to have: (a) additional slit seeding for the
Beaver Ponds soccer park and water tower No. 2 park; (b) recommend that the City complete a
landscaping plan for the Beaver Ponds park; (c) their interest in the use of water tower #3 as a new park;
and (d) recommend the delivery of additional wood chips for Lions Park..
Miron made motion, Petryk seconded, to approve items a, b, and d and be completed as recommended
by the Parks Commission. Use of water tower No. 3 site as a park is not feasible at this time.
All aye. Motion Carried.
REQUEST FOR CHILDREN AT PLAY SIGNS (CREEKVIEW PRESERVE & BEAVER
PONDS)
Staff received numerous requests for "children at play" signs in both the Creekview Preserve and Beaver
Ponds subdivisions. As Council is aware, all sign requests like this must be brought before the Council
and reviewed by the City Engineer for consideration and approval and installation. Council has
addressed the "children at play" signs in Creekview Preserve on two other occasions and addressed the
problem by additional policing by the WSCO. The request for the "children at play" signs in the Beaver
Ponds subdivision is a new request; however, it has specific credence since the signs are requested in
front of the Beaver Ponds park. This request is one that the City Engineer would typically recommend
given it identifies a "playground".
Miron made motion, Granger seconded, authorizing the installation of "playground" signs at the Beaver
Ponds park and work with the WACO to increase their patrol during the hours of 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
All aye. Motion Carried.
WASHINGTON COUNTY RAILROAD AUTHORITY MANAGEMENT PLAN
Mike Rogers from the Washington County Railroad Authority Management Plan addressed the City
Council on its management plan for the maintenance of the County's railroad authority over the property
adjacent to the Hardwood Creek Trail. No formal Council action was required.
APPROVE APPLICATION FOR TRAIL CONNECTIONS TO HARDWOOD CREEK TRAIL
The City would like to make application for the two trail connections from the new City Hall site to the
Hardwood Creek Trail.
