City Council meeting of November 19, 2001 <br />Page 4 <br />modifications to the City employee salary matrix, which was authorized by Council in September 2001. <br />Council was provided an update on the 2002 budget indicating how the new salary matrix would affect <br />the budget. <br />Haas made motion, Miron seconded, that the City adopt Option A of the 2002 salary matrix and <br />incorporate into the 2002 budget. Staff is directed to refine the proposed budget numbers to reflect a <br />0% increase in the City's 2002 budget. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />Paul Ness was directed to review the City's employee benefit package and report back to the Council. <br />Miron made motion, Granger seconded, directing staff to reword the LMC letter dealing with property <br />taxes for the Mayor's signature to include in the City's next newsletter. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />APPOINTMENT OF NEW FIRE CHIEF <br />At its September 17, 2001 meeting, the Council created a Fire Chief Selection Committee, and <br />appointed Council member Becky Petryk, Fire Chief Joe McMahon, former City Council member Jim <br />Leroux, and City Administrator Mike Ericson to serve on the Committee. The Committee reviewed the <br />seven applicants for the position of Fire Chief, who met the minimum requirements, as well as the peer <br />reviews for each of the seven applicants. After considerable discussion, the Fire Chief Selection <br />Committee unanimously agreed to recommend the appointment of Jadon 011ila as the new Fire Chief <br />for the Hugo Fire Dept. <br />Miron made motion, Haas seconded, directing staff to schedule City Council interviews of the top two <br />candidates for the Fire Chief position, Jadon 011ila and Jim Compton. <br />All aye. Motion Carried. <br />WASHINGTON4UMSEY COUNTY PUBLIC REFUSE COLLECTION <br />City Administrator Mike Ericson attended a joint meeting of the Ramsey and Washington Counties <br />solid waste advisory boards at which the topic of public refuse collection was discussed. The issue of <br />organized public refuse collection was discussed by the advisory boards, which are the actual county <br />boards who serve the citizens of Ramsey and Washington Counties, respectively. The collective boards <br />agreed to extend until March 2002 the opportunity to take public comment on the issue. Refuse haulers <br />and the county's publicly subsidized RDF (refuse derived fuel) plant in Newport, MN., will be affected <br />by the outcome. No formal Council action was required. <br />METRO GREENWAY AND PLANNING GRANT PROGRAM <br />The City received a grant application from the MnDNR's metro greenways program whereby the City <br />could solicit for grant dollars to fund corridor greenway projects.
