City Council meeting of August 18, 1997 Page 4 requires that purveyors of tobacco be given a 30 -day notice before the adoption of any new ordinance regulating the sale of this product. Leroux made motion, Goiffon seconded, to remove Section 50.150, regarding age of sales persons, from the proposed ordinance and copies be provided to purveyors of tobacco 30 days prior to the public hearing date of October 6, 1997. All aye. Motion Carried. The City Council conducted a special meeting on August 11, 1997 to receive public comment regarding the need for a new Fire Hall, as well as whether the City should build new or remodel the existing facility. The Council discussed at length that there are two issues to be considered with this matter: 1) need for a new Fire Hall, and 2) site location. Council member Debi Johnson felt that it was important for voters to know the location for the new Fire Hall prior to voting for its approval. Leroux made motion, Goiffon seconded, directing staff to prepare a referendum to offer to voters in November, 1997, for the purpose of constructing a new Fire Hall. Assuming approval of the referendum, public discussion of site location will be continued. VOTING AYE: Goiffon, Leroux, Miron VOTING NAY: Debi Johnson Motion Carried. Leroux made motion, Miron seconded, that the City of Hugo recommends Dave Truax as a nominee to the Minnesota State Board of Soil and Water Resources to serve as a manager of the Brown's Creek Watershed District. All aye. Motion Carried. The Mayor received a letter from Senator Rod Grams seeking names to be honored with a Congressional Award from those serving their community on the Fire Department. Goiffon made motion, Leroux seconded, direct the Mayor, City Administrator, and Fire Chief to recommend a firefighter for such an award. All aye. Motion Carried.
