7. Make markers and signs for all kilometer and mile marks for races and for the community to use so they will
know how far they have walked or jogged. Also prepare a large map to be posted at the course for use by the
public.
8. Build a temporary fence along the parking lot to keep snowmobiles and four wheelers from going on the land.
YEAR TWO GOALS 2012-2013 is
1. Run an electric line from the present box on the property to the finish line area.
2. Bring in gravel to upgrade and improve the parking lot for teams and officials.
3. Build a finish structure.
4. Move the old portable press box building ( 8 feet by 24 feet) at the U to the finish line area.
5. Start putting split rail fence along the finish and starting area to keep spectators back from the runners/skiers.
6. Plant small pine and poplar trees along various areas of the course.
7. Mow an area near the finish line for team tents.
YEAR THREE GOALS 2013-2014
1. Host the first college and high school races.
2. Meet with U coaches on a plan to bring the Griak Invitational to the course in 2014.
3. Host the Roy Griak Invitational at the course. (fall of 2014)
4. Mow an area near the pond on the southeast portion of the property so spectators and the public can use it for
picnics and a gathering place during events.
5. Begin grading the hillside on the north end of the course that spectators can use to get an optimal view of the
races.
YEAR FOUR GOALS 2014-2015
1. Have the initial investment of $30,000 paid off.
2. Continue to improve the course with projects such as building a shed for ATVs and equipment to be used at the
course.
3. Start raising funds to expand and pave the parking lot areas as well as other projects that seem appropriate for
the enhancement of the facility.
HOWWILL THIS PROJECT BE FUNDED?
1. The initial investment of $30,000 will be funded with a short term loan from Gary and Suzy Wilson and the initial
gift of $5,000 from the Women's CC/Track Booster Club at the University of Minnesota.
2. The ongoing funds will be raised through a fund raising campaign by Gary and Suzy Wilson and Dave and Patti
Percival.
A brochure and a web page will be produced on the project. Then various volunteers will create and implement
ideas on how to raise funds such as the sale of commemorative bricks. These bricks would be used to line the
finish line area.
3. Funds will also be raised by renting the facility for various meets and activities. We would propose that half of
the funds raised would go back into the loan payoff and improvements to the course and the related facilities.
The other half would go back to the City of Hugo.
4. Gifts in Kind will be requested from various companies in the Twin Cities, friends of Gary and Dave, alums from
the U of M, as well as individuals from the surrounding communities that might have a vested interest in the
development of this property.
