Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for April 17,2017 <br /> Page 2 of 9 <br /> Presentation of Certificate of Appreciation to Sergeant Joe Stoehr <br /> Councilman Haas spoke about the suicide rate of veterans, and he introduced Captain Troy <br /> Davidson of the Minnesota National Guard's resilience, risk reduction and suicide prevention <br /> team who talked about the National Guards' suicide prevention efforts. Haas recognized <br /> Sergeant Joe Stoehr, who was recently involved in an incident with a suicidal veteran who was <br /> committing an unlawful act. Stoehr had pressure from others to take the gentleman to jail, but <br /> was he was able to understand and verify the circumstances. Stoehr took a different course of <br /> action by sending him to the hospital and not the prison system. A Certificate of Appreciation <br /> was presented to Joe for his intervention on behalf of a veteran in crisis. <br /> Recognition of Retirement of Sheriff Hutton <br /> In January 2007, Sheriff William Hutton had been sworn in as the sheriff of the Washington <br /> County Sheriff s Office. Since then, the City of Hugo has had a close working relationship with <br /> his department. Sheriff Hutton retired effective April 30, 2017 and the Council presented him a <br /> plaque recognizing his over ten years of service to the City of Hugo. The Council thanked <br /> Hutton for his innovation and creativity, and for everything he has done for Hugo by creating a <br /> proactive policing system. <br /> The Council recessed for a short break. <br /> Approval of the Consent Agenda <br /> Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to approve the following Consent Agenda items. <br /> 1. Approval of Claims <br /> 2. Approve Temporary Liquor License for the Hugo Lions Club for Good Neighbor Days <br /> Event June 8-11, 2017 <br /> 3. Approve Resignation of Hugo Firefighter Matt Richardson <br /> 4. Approve Renewal of 2 a.m. Liquor License Sal's Angus Grill <br /> 5. Approve Hiring of Marty Schwartz, Scott Marschke, James Magill, Hunter Natterstad, <br /> Kraig Pettee as Public Works Seasonal Summer Employees <br /> 6. Approve Tobacco License for Ksiall Company, dba MGM Wine and Spirits of Hugo <br /> 7. Approve Special Event Permit for MGM Grand Opening Event <br /> All Ayes. Motion carried. <br /> Approval of Claims <br /> Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the Claims Roster as presented. <br />
