PLANNING COMMISSION UPDATE <br />At its July 27, 2017 meeting, the Planning Commission considered the site plan and conditional <br />use permit amendment request for Xcel Energy. Lee Stokes, Xcel's Property Services and <br />Project Manager, spoke to the Planning Commission about the project prior to the public hearing <br />being opened. There was no one that spoke during the public hearing. The Planning <br />Commission understood the needs for site expansion for Xcel and were excited to see the growth <br />of the business in Hugo. The Commission recommended approval of the site plan and <br />conditional use permit amendment applications, subject to the conditions listed in the resolution. <br />2. DESCRIPTION OF REQUEST/BACKGROUND: <br />In 2012, with recommendations from the Planning Commission, the City Council approved three <br />phases of a site plan for a 50,000 square foot training barn for the property located at 13620 <br />Fenway Boulevard North. More phases were anticipated with the project. The applicant is <br />requesting site plan approval for a 12,000 square foot building addition to the previously <br />approved training barn. The addition will be used for substation training bringing the total <br />building size to approximately 53,000 square feet. The applicant combined two existing lots they <br />own that created a 28 acre lot. <br />
