When the water tower was built, space and
access was designed specifically for the installation of such mobile antenna equipment.
Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved a lease agreement with Verizon Wireless to allow the
installation of antenna equipment on water tower no. 3. In return, Verizon Wireless will pay the
City an annual rent of $24,000 with a 2.5% increase each year.
Update on Fire Hall Roof Replacement
At its July 5, 2017, meeting, the Council approved the hiring of a consultant to prepare plans and
specifications for a new Fire Hall roof. Community Development Assistant Rachel Leitz
explained that the Fire Hall was constructed in 1998, and staff had been working on the process
of roof replacement following the bidding process. She talked about the installation of solar
panels on the facility and described two potential systems. With the cost, lifespan, and size of the
project, staff felt it was not the best option at this time, but the roof would be engineered to hold
a future installation of a solar energy system. Next steps in the process are to prepare plans and
specs and approve the advertisement of bids for the project to be done this year. Council agreed
it did not seem fiscally responsible to put solar panels on the roof at this time.
