June 4, 2007 <br />2008 Hugo Comprehensive Plan Update <br />May 23, 2007 Goals and Strategies Workshop <br />Summary of Responses <br />The purpose of this meeting was to continue to discuss the draft goals and strategies <br />and begin to prioritize and refine these goals and strategies. A total of 49 residents, <br />council members and commissioners attended the meeting. <br />Dot Exercise <br />Residents were asked to place a dot on a City of Hugo map where their house is <br />located. This exercise showed that residents from many different neighborhoods and <br />areas of the City, including recently constructed residential developments and the older <br />rural residential areas, attended the meeting (refer to attached map). <br />Exercise 1 <br />Participants were given a worksheet and asked to review all the goals listed in the <br />Community Goals handout and rank the five goals that they feel are the most important <br />to the community. The top 5 goals identified by participants are listed below in order of <br />importance, according to the total number of votes received, which are in parentheses. <br />We have also prepared a summary chart ranking all of the goals and strategies, which <br />is attached for your review. <br />1. Goal 2 (20 votes) - Maintain the unique rural quality and small town feel of the <br />community through thoughtful planning. <br />2. Goal 3 (16 votes) - Maintain open spaces, natural resources and viewsheds that <br />contribute to the character of the community. <br />3. Goal 18 (14 votes) - Protect the health and safety and welfare of the residents of Hugo <br />through efficient and effective public safety systems. <br />4. Goal 1 (13 votes) - Provide for a variety of residential, commercial, industrial, <br />institutional and agricultural land use opportunities within the community. <br />S. Goal 13 (13 votes) - Protect and enhance the natural environment through <br />sound land stewardship practices. <br />Exercise 2 <br />Participants were given a worksheet and asked to review all the goals listed in the <br />Community Goals handout and identify up to five goals that they think are the least <br />important to the community. The 5 least important goals identified by participants are <br />listed below in order of importance, according to the total number of votes received, <br />which are in parentheses. <br />
