June 4, 2007 <br />1. Goal 7 (14 votes) - Provide a variety of housing types at a range of values to <br />support a sustainable community. <br />2. Goal 16 (14 votes) - Work with adjacent jurisdictions and regulating agencies to <br />promote a collaborative approach to planning. <br />3. Goal 10 (10 votes) - Promote balanced commercial and industrial development <br />that will better serve the full range of needs of local residents. <br />4. Goal 12 (9 votes) - Encourage commercial development that supports the small <br />town quality of Hugo. <br />5(tie). Goal 1 (8 votes) - Provide for a variety of residential, commercial, industrial, <br />institutional and agricultural land use opportunities within the community. <br />5(tie). Goal 3 (8 votes) - Maintain open spaces, natural resources and viewsheds that <br />contribute to the character of the community. <br />5(tie). Goal 19 (8 votes) - Provide a transportation system that is designed and <br />maintained to encourage development in accordance with Hugo Land Use Guide Plan. <br />A number of the participants noted that they ranked some of these goals as least <br />important because these are either redundant or could be combined with other goals. <br />For example, some participants noted that Goal 3 could be eliminated or combined with <br />either goals 2, 13 or 14 and that Goal 12 could be eliminated or combined with either <br />goal 2 or 10. <br />Exercise 3 <br />Participants were given a worksheet and asked to review all of the strategies listed for <br />each goal in the Community Goals handout and rank the top strategies they think are <br />important to implementing the Comprehensive Planning goals. The top 5 strategies <br />identified by participants are listed below in order of importance, according to the total <br />number of votes received, which are in parentheses. <br />1. Strategy 2b (12 votes) - Develop Downtown Hugo as a livable, pedestrian -friendly <br />town center within the City of Hugo. <br />2. Strategy 3b (9 votes) - Create a land use plan that supports the preservation of <br />natural resources and permanent open space. <br />3. Strategy 2a (7 votes) - Encourage development that preserves open spaces and <br />creates connections to natural areas. <br />4. Strategy 2c (6 votes) - Maintain and enhance the quality of development through <br />the design and performance standards. <br />
