MINUTES FOR THE EDA MEETING OF FEBRUARY 19, 2008 <br /> EDA President Fran Miron called the meeting to order at 8:30 am. <br /> PRESENT: Jan Arcand, Jim B er, Tom Denaway, Mike nger, Phil Klein, Brian Thistle, <br /> and Fran Miron <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> CITY STAFF PRESENT: City Administrator Mike Ericson, CD Director Bryan Bear, <br /> Associate Planner Rachel Simone <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES FOR THE EDA MEETING OF JANUARY 22, 2008 <br /> Denaway made motion, Klein seconded, to approve the minutes for the EDA meeting of January 22, <br /> 2008. <br /> All aye. Motion carried. <br /> DISCUSSION AND APPROVAL OF THE 2008 EDA GOALS <br /> The EDA discussed the 2008 EDA goals and the 2008 City Council goals. <br /> Denaway made a motion, Granger seconded,to approve the 2008 EDA goals. <br /> DISCUSSION ON BUSINESS RETENTION AND EXPANSION COMMITTEE <br /> At the January meeting the EDA was presented with a business retention and expansion <br /> program from the U of M extension services. The EDA outlined in their 2008 goal that a <br /> business retention and expansion subcommittee should be formed to work on retention and <br /> expansion of business in Hugo. The EDA discussed forming a subcommittee. <br /> Jan Arcand, Jim Bever, and Brian Thistle volunteered to be on the BR&E subcommittee. <br /> Miron made a motion, seconded by Granger,to accept Jan Arcand, Jim Bever, and Brian <br /> Thistle as subcommittee members, Jim Bever being the chair of the committee, and to <br /> advertise in the City newsletter for volunteers to join the subcommittee. <br /> All aye. Motion Carried <br /> DISCUSSION ON HUGO KIDZ N' BIZ FEST DONATION <br /> On April 6th, 2008,the 4th annual Kidz `n Biz Fest will take place at the Oneka Elementary <br /> School. This annual event is an opportunity for the Hugo Business Association and the Hugo <br /> EDA to directly connect with Hugo families and children in a PTA carnival atmosphere. <br /> This event is expected to attract more than 400 Hugo children and their families, and will <br /> once again feature an assortment of carnival games presented by Hugo businesses with <br /> assistance from the WBL High School and National Honor Society. Last year the EDA and <br /> the Hugo Business Association(HBA) co-sponsored the event in the amount of$500. Staff <br /> recommended that the EDA make a recommendation to the City Council that the EDA co- <br /> sponsor with the HBA for Hugo Kidz `n Biz Fest. <br />
