Conservation Efforts The City Council is working to design and build more stormwater reuse/ management projects and is seeking grant funding to support the conservation efforts. As a leader in regional activities related to water resource management, Hugo is striving for future city-wide self- reliance on water. These conservation efforts are promoted through education and incentives. Economic Development As the City of Hugo continues to develop, the City is focusing on marketing City- owned property by using City-wide promotion strategies. The Council agrees that assisting businesses with expansion plans and collaborating with Washington County on economic development initia- tives is vital for the community. In order to see these new business plans come to fruition, the City will implement an Economic Development Strategic Plan. Community Development This upcoming year will see updates to zoning ordinances and the implementation of a new permit management software. The Community Development Department continues to meet with developers inter- ested in vacant, undeveloped land parcels. Additionally, City staff is collaborating with school districts on their facility needs as the population in Hugo expands. Infrastructure This summer the City will see multiple improvements to the infrastructure around Hugo. Plans are underway for the reconstruction of 130th Street from Hwy 61 to Goodview Ave and well as construction plans for the new water tower on 125th Street. Plans are also taking shape for maintenance of the City’s primary drainage infrastructure. Parks Project The City Council is focusing on improving City parks and will be conducting a work- shop to consider funding scenarios for community parks. Hugo is lucky to have extensive natural areas throughout the community and park improvements are vital to keep parks operable. In addition to existing parks, construction will begin on a new residential park this year in Adelaide Landing. Public Safety Public Safety is very important to the City of Hugo and regular evaluations of emer- gency services will continue to be a priority. This year the Council is excited to announce that there is a new ladder truck in service for the Hugo Fire Department. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department also continues to hold a strong partnership with the City. Administration The City continues to seek ways to improve technology to better communicate with and serve its residents, including the continuing conversion to electronic data. A 2019 goal of the Council is to expand the use and hours of the City compost site and consider restoration possibilities of the Hopkins Schoolhouse. Call 651-762-6300 or visit www.ci.hugo.mn.us/facility_rentals 2019City Council Goals LOCAL BOARD OF APPEAL AND EQUALIZATION MEETING The City of Hugo will hold its Local Board of Appeal and Equalization meeting on Thursday, April 11 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. If you disagree with how your property was assessed, you may appeal your property’s market value estimate and/or classification if you feel your property is: • Classified improperly • Valued higher or lower than you could sell it for • Valued differently from similar property in your area.
