Conservation Efforts <br />The City Council is working to design <br />and build more stormwater reuse/ <br />management projects and is seeking <br />grant funding to support the conservation <br />efforts. As a leader in regional activities <br />related to water resource management, <br />Hugo is striving for future city-wide self- <br />reliance on water. These conservation <br />efforts are promoted through education <br />and incentives. <br />Economic Development <br />As the City of Hugo continues to develop, <br />the City is focusing on marketing City- <br />owned property by using City-wide <br />promotion strategies. The Council agrees <br />that assisting businesses with expansion <br />plans and collaborating with Washington <br />County on economic development initia- <br />tives is vital for the community. In order <br />to see these new business plans come <br />to fruition, the City will implement an <br />Economic Development Strategic Plan. <br />Community Development <br />This upcoming year will see updates to <br />zoning ordinances and the implementation <br />of a new permit management software. <br />The Community Development Department <br />continues to meet with developers inter- <br />ested in vacant, undeveloped land parcels. <br />Additionally, City staff is collaborating with <br />school districts on their facility needs as the <br />population in Hugo expands. <br />Infrastructure <br />This summer the City will see multiple <br />improvements to the infrastructure around <br />Hugo. Plans are underway for the <br />reconstruction of 130th Street from <br />Hwy 61 to Goodview Ave and well as <br />construction plans for the new water <br />tower on 125th Street. Plans are also <br />taking shape for maintenance of the City’s <br />primary drainage infrastructure. <br />Parks Project <br />The City Council is focusing on improving <br />City parks and will be conducting a work- <br />shop to consider funding scenarios for <br />community parks. Hugo is lucky to have <br />extensive natural areas throughout the <br />community and park improvements are <br />vital to keep parks operable. In addition to <br />existing parks, construction will begin on a <br />new residential park this year in Adelaide <br />Landing. <br />Public Safety <br />Public Safety is very important to the City <br />of Hugo and regular evaluations of emer- <br />gency services will continue to be a priority. <br />This year the Council is excited to announce <br />that there is a new ladder truck in service for <br />the Hugo Fire Department. The Washington <br />County Sheriff’s Department also continues <br />to hold a strong partnership with the City. <br />Administration <br />The City continues to seek ways to improve <br />technology to better communicate with <br />and serve its residents, including the <br />continuing conversion to electronic data. <br />A 2019 goal of the Council is to expand <br />the use and hours of the City compost <br />site and consider restoration possibilities of <br />the Hopkins Schoolhouse. <br />Park Shelter Permit <br />Stop by Hugo City Hall to obtain a <br />$5 permit to reserve a park shelter. <br />Community rooms are also <br />available to rent. <br />Call 651-762-6300 or visit <br />www.ci.hugo.mn.us/facility_rentals <br />2019City Council Goals <br />LOCAL BOARD OF APPEAL AND <br />EQUALIZATION MEETING <br />The City of Hugo will hold its Local Board of Appeal and Equalization <br />meeting on Thursday, April 11 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. <br />If you disagree with how your property was assessed, you may appeal <br />your property’s market value estimate and/or classification if you feel <br />your property is: <br />• Classified improperly <br />• Valued higher or lower than you could sell it for <br />• Valued differently from similar property in your area. <br />The City Assessor and members of the board will be present <br />on April 11, however, if you have questions prior to the meeting <br />please contact either: <br />RESIDENTIAL ASSESSOR <br />Dan Raboin <br />651-275-7223 <br />COMMERCIAL ASSESSOR <br />Laura Aamodt <br />651-257-7529 <br />5
