Parks Planner Job Description <br />Page 3 of 3 <br /> Considerable ability to sit for long periods when operating a computer. <br /> Considerable ability to use fine motor skills and manual dexterity to write and do word <br />processing on computer using repetitive movements. <br /> Considerable ability to respond appropriately to inquiries and to delegate to others as <br />needed. <br /> Considerable ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines. <br /> Considerable ability to maintain a good driving record and drive safely and legally. <br /> Considerable ability to perform multiple tasks in a timely fashion. <br /> Ensures City’s playground and park facilities are up to standard; assists in long-term <br />park planning. <br /> Attends relevant training to keep current on required knowledge areas and skills. <br /> Ability to supervise clerical and part-time staff, schedule work, and effectively direct <br />multiple projects. <br /> Ability to develop effective working relationships with residents, government officials, <br />elected officials, and City staff. <br /> Ability to understand/perform basic mathematical calculations and understand/compute <br />simple statistical calculations. <br /> Ability to maintain accurate and thorough records. <br /> Ability regularly to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time. <br /> Ability to operate a vehicle. <br /> Ability to work outside in inclement weather or extremes of temperature. <br /> <br /> <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br />Minimum qualifications include four year degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Public <br />Administration, Environmental Studies, Landscape Architecture, or related field. Three years of <br />demonstrated municipal experience in related activities or comparable private sector experience. <br />Preferred qualifications include five years of experience within a municipal parks department. A <br />masters degree can substitute for a portion of experience required. The job requires excellent <br />interpersonal skills and the ability to operate personal computers and proficiency with GIS <br />programs and with Microsoft Word and Excel. A valid driver’s license is also required. <br /> <br />WORKING CONDITIONS <br />Work is performed in- and out-of-doors with regular travel within and outside of the City. <br />Works beyond normal hours. Operates either personal or City vehicle for regular transportation <br />needs. Sits for extended periods of time. Noise in work place is usually quiet but may be <br />exposed to louder noises at work sites. Uses near vision, ability to focus, sense of touch, and <br />hearing. Uses fine and large motor movements at times. While performing the duties of this job, <br />the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or <br />controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and <br />stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 <br />pounds. <br />
