<br />Job Description <br /> <br />Position Title: Building Inspector <br />Department: Community Development/Building <br />Department <br />Immediate Supervisor’s Title: Building Official <br />Pay Grade: 7 <br />Salary Range: $65,700 to $85,591 <br /> <br /> <br />PURPOSE <br />Performs non-supervisory skilled and technical work with primary responsibility to conduct field <br />inspections relating to new construction and existing structures. Assists the Building Official in <br />scheduling inspections, responding to questions, issuing permits, and conducting plan reviews. <br /> <br />ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS <br />Reports to: Building Official, Community Development Director <br />Communicates with: Internally - City administrative staff, other City departments; <br /> Externally - Builders/contractors, homeowners, and residents. <br />Supervises: None <br /> <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS <br /> Keeps Building Official informed of all pertinent matters. <br /> Administers building permits and provides information concerning procedures and <br />standards on a daily basis to residents, businesses, developers, architects, and others <br />involved in building construction activities; maintains schedule of inspections. <br /> Performs on-site inspections for building, HVAC, mechanical and plumbing construction <br />work to ensure code compliance; performs inspections at various stages of construction <br />including finals; and issues permits. <br /> Assists in the maintenance of complete and accurate inspection and permit records. <br /> Assists the Building Official in plan reviews to determine compliance with applicable <br />codes and ordinances. <br /> Work collaboratively with the Community Development Department to coordinate <br />approvals during the plan review process to ensure all applicable conditions and <br />requirements have been satisfied prior to the issuance of permits. <br /> Attends continuing education courses to keep current on code changes and maintain <br />certification. <br /> Follows-up on all public complaints; takes notes, contacts concerned owners to explain <br />complaint and necessary corrective actions, follows-up to observe compliance; and refers <br />to Building Official as needed. <br /> <br />OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br />Performs other related duties as assigned by Supervisor. <br /> <br />REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES <br /> Knowledge of practices and procedures common to construction and development <br />industries. <br /> Knowledge of the International Building Code, International Residential Building Code,
