Existing Conditions 3.1 Surface The existing streets within the Birch Tree Ponds Area are asphalt paved residential streets. Except for Fountain Avenue North, road widths are 28 feet, with surmountable curb and no sidewalk. The northerly section of Fountain Avenue North is 28 feet in width with bituminous curb and no sidewalk while the southerly section of Fountain Avenue North is 30 feet in width with surmountable curb and no sidewalk. The roadway drainage is conveyed by storm sewers to stormwater ponds within the project area. 3.2 Storm Sewer Stormwater is collected in existing curb catch basins on either side of the roadway. These discharge to stormwater basins within the project area. A majority of the existing storm sewer structures have deteriorated and require replacement. 3.3 Municipal Utilities 3.3.1 Sanitary Sewer The sanitary sewer system in the Birch Tree Ponds Area consists of 8” to 15” polyvinyl chloride pipe (PVC). Public Works conducted a review of the existing sanitary sewer components, such as manholes and pipe, and found no deficiencies. Sewer televising is scheduled to be completed to ensure there are not any corrections needed as part of this project. 3.3.2 Watermain The watermain system in the Birch Tree Ponds Area consists of a 6” to 8” ductile iron pipe (DIP). Public Works has completed a review of the existing watermain components, such as gate valve locations, gate valve condition, and hydrant conditions. There have been watermain breaks in the area since the watermain was installed. Minor changes to the system that include a limited amount of additional of valves, valve bolt replacement and three hydrant extensions have been included.
