FINAL DELIVERABLE : HSHC 5
Marketing and Operations Plan
Museum
The museum will be the main focus and we propose two methods of providing an immersive,
educational experience that will attract visitors of all ages. The museum can be experienced by a tour or
through volunteer-led group activities. Both activities will contain interactive components.
The tour experience will be a self-paced tour that allows visitors to see the history of the
schoolhouse and past community group activities. Curated displays will showcase authentic artifacts,
including clothing, teaching materials, school supplies, and work done by community groups working in
the schoolhouse. Descriptive labels will provide context and insights for each display. To further enrich
the experience, we propose a storytelling corner within the schoolhouse. Equipped with projectors, this
designated area will take visitors through time with recorded storytelling sessions. These stories will be
sourced from actual accounts provided by former students and teachers. In addition, we propose
interactive stations featuring period-appropriate writing tools, slates, textbooks, and other supplies. A
third engagement of the senses will be the opportunity to engage in tactile play. Interactive stations
featuring period-appropriate writing tools, textbooks, and other supplies will allow visitors to experience
firsthand the activities former students and community groups engaged in. Last, a photo gallery of former
students and community groups can serve as a tribute to the individuals who have contributed to the
history and spirit of the school.
We recommend the group activity experience be targeted to school and daycare groups. Three of
the six organizations researched have operational activities that include opportunities for school children
to engage in activities that incorporate play, recreating the history they learn during their visits. For the
Hopkins Schoolhouse, we recommend hosting volunteer-led group activities that allow the group to see
the displays, and engage in games and activities that were played during the periods depicted in the
museum. A volunteer can lead the group through the visit, explain the games or activities, ensure all
needed supplies are available, and monitor the activity.
