Three concept plans were drafted
and comments were received from the public, Parks Commission, Economic Development
Authority, Planning Commission, and Lions Club. At the meeting of February 2, 2015, the City
Council reviewed the three concept plans and provided comments, but no formal action was
taken. Using all of the input, a Preliminary Master Plan for Lions Park was drafted and it was
presented to the Parks Commission at their meeting of February 25, 2015. The Parks,
Recreation, and Open Space Commission recommends final approval of the Lions Park Master
Plan. Next steps would be to look at funding and phasing. The parking/road construction, main
shelter design, storm water treatment, landscaping, and active park amenities will all need to be
looked at in greater detail and additional evaluation by the stakeholders, advisory commissions,
City Council,and public is anticipated.
Jeff Deitner, WSB Engineering, presented the plan to the Council. The Council liked the plan as
presented.
Haas made motion, Klein seconded,to approve the final plan for Lions Park as presented and
move ahead with funding.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
Approve Resolution Supporting Reconstruction of the I35/TH97 Bridge
The State Highway 97/County Road 23 Bridge over I-35 has been in use for nearly five decades
and is in need of repair. This interchange experiences congestion during the peak travel periods.
MnDOT has already programmed$3 million for the re-decking of this interchange bridge;
however, local leaders would like to see the two-lane road replaced with multiple lanes to
accommodate area growth. Anoka and Washington County have been asking legislators to
support the funding for multiple lanes and requested cities approve a resolution supporting the
reconstruction of the bridge.
Klein made motion, Petryk seconded,to approve RESOLUTION 2015-15 RESOLUTION
SUPPORTING THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE INTERSTATE 35-E AND TRUNK
HIGHWAY 97 BRIDGE.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
